6 mnth food chart
First of all, don't stop breastfeeding, feed milk 7-8 times a day. Next important point is, always follow 3 day rule. Introduce only one food at a time and check for three days, if baby is comfortable and not allergic you are good to introduce next one.
Initially baby will only consume 1-2 tbs once a day, do not force feed, give the little one some time to get used to it. If baby is asking for more, lucky you :).
Day- 1, 2 & 3
Start with fruits and vegetables as they are easily digestible. Feed around lunchtime.
APPLE PUREE - Steam peeled and chopped apple pieces for 5 minutes and blend it into smooth puree.
Day- 4, 5 & 6
BANANA PUREE - You can mash a ripe banana and feed or you can take a banana, steam it for 10 mins and blend it into smooth puree.
Day- 7, 8 & 9
CARROT PUREE - Steam peeled and chopped carrots for 15 minutes and blend.
Day- 10, 11 & 12
PUMPKIN PUREE - Steam peeled and chopped pumpkin for 15 minutes and blend.
Day- 13, 14 & 15
Now it's time to introduce cereals. Now you can feed baby even twice a day, so give cereals in breakfast and fruits & vegetable puree in evenings.
RICE GRUEL - Add 2 tbs of cleaned and washed rice in 2 cups of water. Let it boil till rice are very soft. Filter it. You can mash rice a little and add to rice water, I feel its better for baby.
Day- 16, 17 & 18
MOONG DAL GRUEL - Pressure cook cleaned and washed moong dal for 10 mins, mash it and filter it.
Day - 19, 20 & 21
RICE AND MOONG DAL KHICHDI - Wash and air dry 1 cup of rice and half cup of moong dal separately. Now roast these in a pan till they are puffed. Grind rice and dal with a pinch of roasted cumin seeds. Keep this mixture in air tight container.
Whenever you want to feed this, add 1 tbs of this mixture to boiling water and cook for 3-4 mins. Add water as per desired consistency.
Day- 22, 23 & 24
RAGI PORRIDGE - You can simply add instant ragi flour to hot water or prepare it using wholwhole ragi. I prepare using whole ragi. Properly wash ragi seeds 4-5 times and soak it overnight (10-12 hrs). Grind soaked ragi with little water, filter the milk. Now boil this milk untill cooked. It will thicken once cooked, add water to get desired consistency.
Day- 25, 26 & 27
SOOJI PORRIDGE - Dry roast 2 tbs sooji in a pan, once colour changes to brown add 1 cup water and cook untill sooji becomes soft.
Day- 28, 29 & 30
SWEET POTATO PUREE - Steam peeled and chopped sweet potato for 10 minutes and blend.
This is just a reference chart, you can make changes as per your requirement. Try avoiding salt and sugar till 1 year of age.
Once 2 or more food are introduced, you can combine them, like pumpkin apple puree, carrot pumpkin puree, carrot sweet potato puree etc. Add vegetable puree to khichdi or fruit puree to sooji porridge...be innovative as long as baby is happy having it. Along with milk and semi solid try to give water as well, 40-60 ml is enough
